HEELYS - The FAQ
Q: I have been told that schools have banned Heelys. Is this true?
A: It’s possible that your school has banned the use of the wheels. We encourage everyone to be responsible when Heeling and to remove your wheels in areas that do not permit skating. Simply remove your wheels and drop them in your pocket, a back pack, or purchase a wheel pouch from Heelys to keep them clean and available until you can reinsert them again.
Q: How long do the wheels last?
A: As with most products, if they are properly cared for, they will last you a long time. If you are performing jumps and tricks and skate aggressively, you will most likely reduce the life of the wheel. Remember, replacement wheels are available through our web site and through authorized Heelys retailers.
Q: What does ABEC mean?
A: The system devised by the Annular Bearing Engineering Council to rate the precision of the bearings manufacture. The higher the ABEC number, the tighter the manufacturing tolerances are held. The ABEC number is always odd (1,3,5,7), but it has no relation to the quality of the materials that the bearing is manufactured from.
Q: I purchased a pair of Heelys and I have been unable to Heel. What do you suggest?
A: Heeling does require some practice. Heeling has it own unique skill set of balance and coordination, so be patient. Remember that learning to ride your bike took some time, but now it’s easy – Heeling is very much the same.
Q: The heel area on my Heelys is wearing down. What should I do?
A: Although the heel portion of Heelys footwear is 5 times the abrasion resistance level of a normal skate shoe, a wear pattern will develop due to the normal braking process when stopping. However, if this pattern of wear happens prematurely, it may be due to excessive dragging of the heel on rough surfaces. Try alternating heels when braking.
Q: I have had my Heelys for two weeks and my wheels are squeaking.
A: Usually, a couple drops of bearing lubricant added to both sides of the bearing will eliminate the noise. There is always a small possibility that your wheel is defective. If this is the case, contact the retailer where your purchase was made.
Q: Do your wheels come in different colors?
A: Yes. In our wheel kits we offer: Blue wheels with ABEC 3 bearings Red wheels with ABEC 5 bearings Yellow wheels with ABEC 7 bearings
Q: I’m a girl. What size Heelys should I purchase?
A: Heelys are men's sizes. A female should purchase one full size to one-and-a-half size smaller than her regular shoe size; e.g., if you are a women's size 7, you would buy a 5.5 or 6 in Heelys.
Q: How do I know which replacement wheels to buy for my Heelys?
A: Under the tongue of each shoe is a 4-digit Style Code.

Q: How do I remove the wheels?
A: Follow the three steps below to remove your wheels: 1. Hold the shoe upside down with the outside edge away from you. Position both thumbs (one on top of the other) against the side of the wheel and as close to the axle as you can. 2. Using your thumbs, push on the side of the wheel. Because axles are pressure fitted into the “axle arms” or if temperatures are low, wheel removal may be a bit difficult at first. 3. After the axle is partially out, turn the shoe around and with your thumbs, repeat the procedure by pushing against the other side of the wheel.
Q: Where can I buy replacement wheels?
A: There are a few options if you are not able to find replacement wheels at a store near you. You can purchase Heelys replacement wheels online at ZAPPOS.com
Q: How do I put the wheels back into my Heelys?
A: Putting your wheels back in is easy! Just follow the steps below:
1. Align the wheel in the “wheel well” and press the axle ends down as far as you can with your thumb.
2. Make a fist and hit the wheel with the bottom of your fist to fully seat it in both axle arms.
3. Visually inspect the wheel to make sure it is seated and after putting the shoes on, stomp each heel a couple of times to check for seating.
